Derek Hough Floored By Shocker Elimination on Dancing With the Stars Latin Night This article may reveal key details from the second episode of Dancing with the Stars season 32.
The competition in season 32 of Dancing with the Stars is intensifying, and the recent elimination in this week’s episode took Judge Derek Hough by surprise.
On Tuesday, October 3rd, cohosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough both donned red attire in honor of Latin Night. Julianne, 35, set the tone at the episode’s outset, teasing, “Latin night is going to be sizzling!”
While Latin Night showcased some exceptional duos, with judge Carrie Anna Inaba praising social media personality Lele Pons for setting the stage ablaze, not everyone found success.
Following all the performances, Mauricio Umansky and his partner Emma Slater received the lowest score of the night. Harry Jowsey and Rylee Arnold, Barry Williams and Peta Murgatroyd, and Adrian Peterson and Britt Stewart, all found themselves tied for the second-lowest score on this Latin-themed evening.
Following the tally of viewers’ votes, Peterson, aged 38, and Stewart, aged 34, as well as Jamie Lynn Spears, aged 32, and Alan Bergsten, aged 29, landed in the unfortunate bottom two. Regrettably, Spears and Bergsten were the ones who had to bid farewell to the competition.
After the outcome was revealed, Spears reflected on her journey, expressing appreciation for the many positive aspects of the experience. She notably mentioned, “There were so many incredible moments during this journey, especially doing something I never thought I would attempt in my entire life.”
When asked for his thoughts on the surprising elimination, Derek, aged 38, confided to Ribeiro, aged 52, that it caught him off guard. He praised Jamie Lynn, saying, “Honestly, it’s quite unexpected. Jamie Lynn, you were truly remarkable, and you should take immense pride in your achievements here. It’s truly a shocker, and we’ll miss you, Jamie.”
Meanwhile, some other contestants experienced a remarkable shift, going from the middle of the pack to the pinnacle of the leaderboard. Actress Xochitl Gomez and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy saw their score rise from 18 in the premiere episode to an impressive 24.
“Inaba, at 55 years old, complimented Gomez, who is just 17, saying, ‘Your salsa skills are truly remarkable, my friend. I could see a hint of Rita Moreno in your performance.'”
Derek shared a similar sentiment, praising Gomez’s incredible spins: “Your spins were absolutely stellar. That was an outstanding performance.”
The judges also commended Charity Lawson for her outstanding performance, despite not having her usual partner, Artem Chigvintsev, by her side. The 27-year-old former Bachelorette danced the Cha-Cha with her temporary partner, Ezra Sosa. The official Dancing with the Stars Instagram page had announced this lineup change on Tuesday before the episode, explaining that Artem could not perform due to COVID-19: “Artem will not be dancing tonight due to COVID. Wishing him a speedy recovery! ❤️.” They accompanied the message with a photo of Charity, 27, and Ezra, 22. At the beginning of Latin Night, Ribeiro mentioned that Charity had tested negative for COVID-19 and was fully prepared for the show.
This episode marked Sosa’s debut as a professional competitor on the show. He originally joined the ABC competition series as a troupe dancer during season 30 in 2021. Chigvintsev, who is 41 years old, expressed his support for his temporary replacement through an Instagram post on Tuesday.
“Ezra stepped in with great determination, and both he and Charity have put in tremendous effort over the past few days. Please show them your love and support,” he wrote in the caption of a video where he explained his absence from the episode.
